The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts

-Jasmine Das

What does it mean to be the one who is broken?

Cracked, half, incomplete, inconclusive

Waiting, working, ageing, repeating

What does it mean to be the one who is frozen?

Time lapses, ticking clocks, schedules and doing tasks

Waking up, working hard, hustling while wearing a mask

What does it mean to be the one who is chosen?

It seems like life is broken For the ones that truly deserve it

The lustre of youth comes with a privilege and we must truly preserve it

No responsibilities, no commitments,

No real life problems, no resentment

No regrets and definitely no discontentment

Yet we cry as if the world is ending

The womb which births however has to bear the load of the child

Losing one's own identity

To safeguard one's own chemistry

Making life full of monotony

Losing out on countless camaraderies

In the end was it worth it ?

Was she stuck or Did she really prefer it ?

Mother earth would you give a chance twice

To mankind which is your child filled with vice?

Yet she wakes up once again

Moving boulders and hustling relentlessly.

She puts on a smile and moves zestfully .

She wears the cape and takes up her weaponry.

She is no less than a wonder woman .

She is no less than the greatest human .

She is stronger and tougher than ever,

Cause I know that she is my treasure.

I am a third year student, studying English from Hansraj College, about to graduate soon. Studying literature is something I enjoy because it's an engaging discipline that has given me 'eureka' moments that remain incomparable to anything else. While I've always had an artistic side with my love for music, art and writing; I've not been in the habit of sharing my work for public scrutiny. I feel that poetry is the language in which I tend to express my innermost emotions. But expression, whether it bears praise or shame, is nonetheless one's own. With that in mind, I decided to put some of my work out there.
